Working to Defy Cancer: Meet Lucie Paul
Lucie Paul reflects on her rewarding role at Dana-Farber, where her warmth and dedication help create a welcoming environment for all.

This post is part of a series highlighting staff members within Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund’s Division of Philanthropy, to give supporters an inside peek at life at New England’s favorite charity. Today, we’re talking to Senior Operations Specialist, Administration, Lucie Paul.
What brought you to Dana-Farber?
I participated in a career fair, I was called in for an interview, and I got the job. After 14.5 years at the Jimmy Fund, I left to work for another company for five years, only to return to the place I love most. Now, 19 years later, I’m still here.
Can you describe your role here?
I am a Senior Operations Specialist on the Administration team, serving as a key connection point across various parts of the Division of the Philanthropy office. I manage the front desk, and I am often the first face and voice people meet here. My role helps give a great first impression of the Institute.
Is there anything you would like to share about working at Dana-Farber and the Division of Philanthropy with prospective candidates?
The Division of Philanthropy offers a wide range of opportunities for growth in a warm and welcoming environment. My colleagues are supportive, approachable, and always willing to lend a helping hand.
What does it mean to you to work here and support Dana-Farber’s lifesaving mission to defy cancer?
My niece was diagnosed with leukemia right after her college graduation, and unfortunately, it was too late to receive treatment. On the other hand, my father, who is 106 years old, has been receiving treatment at Dana-Farber and has been doing very well. I am forever indebted to this fine institution because of the great care given to my father.
As a caregiver accompanying my father to his appointments, I’ve had the chance to witness the incredible kindness of Dana-Farber’s staff firsthand. From the valet team warmly greeting us upon arrival and assisting us at the garage, to the thoughtfulness of staff who step aside to let patients onto the elevator first, every interaction reflects their dedication to making everyone feel comfortable and welcome. Kindness truly permeates every corner of the Institute, and it’s a beautiful thing to experience. I am proud to tell people that I work here.
Are there any memories of working here that stand out to you?
I’ve had countless memorable interactions with callers and donors—so many that I could easily write a book about them! Some donors even recognize me by name and voice. When they call the office and hear my voice, they often say, "Thank goodness you’re still here; I feel so comfortable talking with you." One of my colleagues shared this heartwarming message from a donor: “Mr. ’X’ told me how much he enjoys speaking with Lucie. After making a $5,000 contribution, he decided to send an additional $500 because of Lucie’s warmth and kindness.” Moments like these make my work truly rewarding.
